Scrap My Car in Coventry

Coventry was making cars before almost anywhere else in Britain, and it has been scrapping them for just as long. That history left the city unusually well served for treatment facilities relative to its size.

A city that has scrapped cars for longer than anywhere else

Coventry built Britain's motor industry from the ground up, and the metal recycling trade here grew up alongside it, handling the offcuts, write-offs and end-of-life vehicles from a city that was making cars before almost anywhere else in the country. That history is still visible in how well served Coventry is for treatment facilities relative to its size, which tends to mean faster collection windows than in cities with a similar population but a thinner network.

Where we collect

Free collection from every CV postcode, covering the city centre, Earlsdon, Coundon, Foleshill, Radford, Wyken, Cheylesmore, Tile Hill and Binley, and out into the wider county through Nuneaton, Rugby, Kenilworth and Warwick.

Paperwork and payment

You will need the V5C logbook and photo ID that matches the registered keeper's address. No MOT, tax or insurance is needed, and the car does not have to be capable of moving. Bank transfer is the only lawful way to be paid, at or before collection, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 covering England and Wales. A doorstep cash offer tells you the buyer is unlicensed.

The treatment facility sends your Certificate of Destruction within the following seven days. The DVLA should be told once the car has gone; you stay the registered keeper and liable for it until they are.

Questions we get asked in Coventry

Is there a clean air charge for driving an old car in Coventry?

No. Coventry has no Clean Air Zone, so no daily charge applies to older vehicles anywhere in the city, for cars or vans. Decisions about scrapping here usually come down to repair costs rather than a zone charge eating into the car's value.

Do you collect from student housing near the universities?

Yes, provided whoever is present is the registered keeper or holds their written authority, with the V5C and matching identification. This comes up often in the areas near both universities, so it is worth confirming who will be home before booking.
