How do I know the yard is legitimate?

A legitimate buyer is an Authorised Treatment Facility licensed by the Environment Agency, and it will issue a Certificate of Destruction within seven days of destroying your vehicle. That certificate is your proof the car is permanently off the road and that liability for it has ended.
