Scrap My Car in Cardiff
A good number of the cars we collect around Cardiff never actually started in the city - they come down from the valley towns above it, off streets built for a different century entirely.
One quote, whatever the terrain
A car on a steep valley street is not worth less than one parked flat in the city centre. The figure is the same regardless of where in South Wales the vehicle happens to be sitting.
Down from the valleys
A good share of the vehicles we collect around Cardiff come down from the valley towns rather than the city itself, from Rhondda, Cynon, Merthyr and the Taff and Rhymney valleys. Steep single-track approaches, terraced streets built into hillsides, and villages with a single road in and out are routine here, and none of it prevents collection provided we know what to expect in advance.
Mention the terrain and access at booking, particularly if the car is on a steep street or in a village with limited turning space, so the right recovery vehicle is sent rather than one that cannot get up the hill.
Where we collect
Free collection from every CF postcode, covering Cardiff city centre, Cardiff Bay, Roath, Canton, Grangetown, Llanishen, Whitchurch, Ely and Rumney, and out through the valleys towns and along the coast to Barry and Penarth.
Paperwork and payment
Bring the V5C logbook and photo ID matching the address the vehicle is registered to. There is no need for a valid MOT, tax or insurance, nor for the car to be capable of starting. Payment reaches your account by bank transfer, at or before collection, under the same Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 rules that apply across England and Wales. A doorstep cash offer means the buyer is unlicensed.
Your Certificate of Destruction is issued by the treatment facility inside a seven-day window. Once the vehicle has gone, notify the DVLA - the liability stays with you as registered keeper until that is done.
Questions we get asked in Cardiff
Do you collect from the valleys or only Cardiff itself?
Both, on exactly the same free basis. Coverage runs throughout the Taff, Rhondda and Rhymney valleys as well as the city, and the terrain changes which vehicle is sent rather than whether the car can be collected at all.
Is there a charge for driving an older car into Cardiff?
No. Cardiff has no Clean Air Zone in force, so there is no daily charge for driving or parking an older vehicle in the city, for cars or vans. Decisions about scrapping here tend to come down to the next repair bill rather than a zone cost.
